Visit from local school children
Visit from local school children
We were delighted to host a year six class at the Meeting House on 9 October as part of our outreach for Quaker Week. They arrived by bus which may have been an adventure for some who do not normally use the bus service and were welcomed into the Marsden Room where we began by eating our packed lunches together. Following lunch we moved into the Meeting Room where the plan for the visit was explained with a brief introduction to Quakers. Next came a chance to stretch our legs and explore the garden. One child offered to water a tub that looked a bit dry.
On our re-entry to the Meeting Room the children heard how Quaker worship is conducted and a boy volunteered to act as an elder sitting by the meeting member. We then settled for a short period of silence during which several children stood to minister, remembering to leave a gap between their ministries. At the end the two 'elders' shook hands and the class followed suit. The children were impressive in the way the participated and listened to what they were told. Their questions were intelligent and thoughtful. We hope they enjoyed their visit. It was certainly a pleasure to host them.
